Bartow Real Estate

Bartow in Polk County, was originally founded as Fort Blount, a stockade settled near the origin of Peace River. It was renamed after the American Civil War, as a tribute to Francis S. Bartow, the first officer of the Confederation to die in the war. Bartow is, in fact, so rich in history that three of the city’s districts are listed on the NRHP (National Register of Historic Places).

Bartow’s population was estimated to be approximately 19,000 in 2015. About 80% of the residents are homeowners and the median family income is $44,000. The cost of living is 15% lower than the national average. The median home cost is about $103,400 and the median apartment rent per month is $990.

The city’s economy based mainly on the tourism, government, mining, and farming sectors. About 50% of the largest employers in Bartow are government entities. The phosphate industry, on the other hand, has in Mosaic its most important job source. Polk County makes part of the so-called Bone Valley – the world’s richest source of phosphate rock.

Bartow is officially (and suitably) nicknamed “city of oaks and azaleas” due to the tall and imposing oaks, and the perennial azalea bushes that give many of the city’s historic landmarks that peculiar Southern air.
