Sebastian Real Estate

“Friendly People and Six Old Grouches” could very well be the title of a comedy film, but it’s actually a phrase you can read on the welcome sign at the entrance of the City of Sebastian, Florida. The origin of the city’s witty motto remains a mystery and nobody really knows who these six old grouches were. Something more relevant (and the fact is pointed out on the very same sign) is that Sebastian is the home of Pelican Island – the first wildlife refuge in the U.S.

The City of Sebastian is located in Indian River County, in the Treasure Coast area. The population is approximately 24,000 (2015). About 85% of the residents are homeowners and the average family income is about $40,800. The cost of living is 1.4% lower than the national average. The real estate market is very healthy for the time being, with homes selling at a median price of $168,000. The median rent for apartments is $1,300 per month (2017).

There are quite a few things the City of Sebastian could boast about. Some of them are its central location with easy access to the Florida Turnpike and I-95, its closeness to great beaches on the Atlantic Coast, its lovely parks, its monthly arts and crafts shows and yearly festivals, and the unhampered seascape of the intra-coastal waterway in the Indian River Lagoon.
