Washington Aircraft

Located in the Southwestern corner of Utah, Washington is close to domestic airports and only a few hours from McCarran International Airport (LAS).  It’s also a point of interest for fans of aviation history.

The closest local airport, Hurricane Airport (XXO), is located about 16 miles (28 km) from Washington and features a runway for small aircraft.  The closest domestic airport is St. George Regional Airport (SGU), which is located about 11 miles (18 km) from the city.  McCarran International Airport (LAS) is about 134 miles (216 km) away.

Washington, Utah is home to a unique piece of American aviation history.  In the 1920’s, the American government began creating a navigation system for domestic flights.  The result was a system of large, concrete arrows placed every 10 miles.  The arrows were illuminated at night to guide airplanes flying between San Francisco and New York and between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.  Many of these arrows have been worn down due to weather, but one still exists in Washington.  Visitors can hike to it via the Shinob Kibe trail.
